It can be Dangerous to Swim in Ponds and Lakes
- Ask yourself this question in relation with seas and swimming pools
There is a 99.9% probability of hazardous bacteria being present in lakes and ponds. As the water gets warm in the summer or the water is in the normal temperature (80 Fahrenheit/ 26.6 Degree Celcius), there will be of nutrients in the water produced by certain bacterias as well as microorganisms. Thus there is a chance of an Amoeba being present that can enter through the nasal membranes and infect the brain called Amoebic Meningoencephalitis ( Or Amebic Meningoencephalitis) with a high fatality rate which patient usually die before knowing the situation. Although our mucus in our nasal cavity contains antibodies, but the amount of antibodies could not approach every Amoeba as there may be thousands or millions of it trying to enter your brain. Once again these infections can be fatal. Very few survivors of PAM have been reported, and the high mortality rate is likely because of the difficulty of diagnosis and poor-to-marginal response to therapy. In most individuals with PAM or GAE, diagnosis is made after their deaths. While water in swimming pools and seas are obviously not dangerous as the swimming pools are added with chlorine to kill bacterias and the high percentage of salt in the sea water that prevents the growth of some bacterias and microorganisms. Somehow this doesn’t guarantee the non-existence of hazardous microorganism living in the pool and sea water.
