Dogs Cannot Eat Chocolate

Until now many dog owners are still not aware that feeding chocolate to their dog may lead to death. Though the symptoms for the dog poisoning which caused by the chocolate are significant, but usually dog owners fail to find out the cause due to the unknowing of the situation.

Chocolate contains Theobromine. Theobromine is a naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, it increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscle. Dogs can not metabolize theobromine as efficiently as humans so it builds up in their systems until it reaches a toxic level of concentration, which may lead to a variety of problem with the most serious being death due to cardiac arrest.

Besides, chocolate poisoning in dogs can cause hyperactivity, kidney damage, increased heart rate, muscle tremor, vomiting and diarrhea, and even death.

Tips:

- The lesser a dog weights, the higher is the toxicity level.
- Dark chocolate contains more theobromine than milk chocolate.
